Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Oncology Veterinary Technician to join our Radiation Oncology team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality cancer care to canine and feline patients, working under minimal supervision in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Responsibilities- Provide oncology-specific technical assistance to veterinary medical or research staff in delivering cancer care, including medicine, surgery, and radiology.
- Monitor patients closely, ensuring they receive the appropriate dosage and care during and after treatment.
- Support radiation and chemotherapy treatments, administering and overseeing anesthesia and analgesia as needed.
- Perform minor surgical procedures and assist with major surgical procedures, providing pre- and post-operative animal monitoring.
- Assist with diagnostic imaging procedures, such as CT scans and ultrasounds, and obtain vital signs, collect samples, and document patient visits electronically.
- Educate and support pet owners in understanding and managing their pet's cancer diagnosis, assisting in the management and post-treatment care of enrolled patients.
- Collaborate closely with the radiation oncology team to provide comprehensive care, communicating effectively with clients and coordinating sample submissions to external laboratories.
- High School diploma or equivalent, and five (5) years' experience working with animals in a clinical or research setting or in a veterinary practice setting.
- Completion of a veterinary technology program or equivalent.
- Credentialed Veterinary Technician preferred.
The work environment is primarily clinical, with exposure to one or more disagreeable elements or hazardous materials, such as animal odors and contact with animals which may harbor diseases. The successful candidate will be expected to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds and request assistance with lifting or carrying animals or materials over 40 pounds.
