Election Clerk - Auditor's Office
Position Overview:
This role is designed to assist the Auditor and Deputy Auditor of Elections in their duties. The primary focus will be on facilitating the preparation and execution of elections.
The selected individual will engage with the public and officials conducting business with the Auditor's Office, providing essential clerical and financial support.
Typical working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional evening and weekend hours as required.Essential Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with up to one (1) year of relevant experience or college-level coursework in office management; proficiency in secretarial tasks, word processing, and spreadsheet applications; or a suitable combination of education, training, and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience as a Precinct Election Official or within a County Auditor's Office is preferred.

Work Schedule: Typically 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday; extended hours and weekends as necessary
FLSA Status: Non-exempt/Union Position
Compensation: Starting at $20.34 per hour, increasing to $20.85 after six months.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide timely and effective service to the public and other employees interacting with the County Auditor's office through various communication channels.
Draft routine correspondence, process billing, and complete necessary forms. Conduct data entry, maintain spreadsheets and documentation, and generate various reports. Act as a Notary Public. Assist in the planning, execution, and follow-up of elections.Responsibilities include proofing, counting, and sorting ballots; registering voters; aiding voters with absentee voting; updating voter registration databases; maintaining absentee voter records; receiving, recording, and distributing absentee ballots; and providing general assistance to voters, Precinct Election Officials, and Auditor Office staff.
While the following tasks are important, they may also be performed by other department members:serve as a backup for claims processing; assist with the management and distribution of warrants; and support routine office functions.

Attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
Basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as the ability to calculate decimals and percentages.
Ability to utilize various reference materials, administrative documents, instructions, policies, directories, voter registration records, election ballots, and reports.
Proficiency in producing reports with correct formatting, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Good judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in various situations are essential. The ability to exchange information for clarification or detail is necessary. The candidate must represent Cerro Gordo County professionally.

Education and Experience:

Must possess a valid Iowa Driver's License and have reliable transportation. Must be insurable under county insurance policies.
