Richmond, Virginia, United States VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION Full time
Overview
This role qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers reimbursement for student loan payments.

Applicants must satisfy specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within a designated timeframe following their appointment.

Approval, the amount awarded (up to $200,000), and the eligibility duration (ranging from one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Requirements To be eligible for this position, candidates must fulfill the following:

Essential Qualifications:
and any additional criteria (if applicable) specified in the job announcement.
Candidates who are in the process of completing training or licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all prerequisites are satisfied.
Current VA-employed physicians who met the qualifications for appointment under the previous standard at the time of their initial hiring are considered to have fulfilled the basic requirements of the role.

Essential Qualifications:

U.S. Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not feasible to recruit qualified citizens in line with VA Policy.
A degree in medicine or an equivalent qualification from an accredited institution.
The degree must have been obtained from a school recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
A current, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia.

Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program that leads to eligibility for board certification.

NOTE:
VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.

Approved residencies include:
(1) Those accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), OR (3) Other residencies (non-U.S. residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to a suitable range of patient care experiences.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs who otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not on a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
PRPs are not regarded as independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that permits them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision.
Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
Proficiency in spoken and written English is required.
