Key Responsibilities

The Geriatrics & Extended Care (GEC) Physician will engage in a variety of settings including inpatient, outpatient, Community Living Center, Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, Satellite Clinic, and Health Care Center environments, utilizing telehealth modalities as necessary. This physician will work across diverse patient demographics, contribute to trainee education, engage in scholarly activities aligned with academic promotion, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Patient care will be delivered both as a consultant and as a primary care provider for an assigned patient panel.

The Richmond VA Medical Center, a level 1a facility, provides extensive health care services including primary, secondary, and tertiary care across various medical specialties. The center has multiple community-based outpatient clinics and maintains a strong partnership with the Medical College of Virginia. Residency programs are available in numerous general and specialty medical fields. The medical center also hosts a Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center and a Parkinson's Disease Research, Education, and Clinical Center (PADRECC).

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with shared on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional criteria specified in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited specialty.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
  • Board eligibility or certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Board Certification and fellowship training in Geriatrics and/or Hospice & Palliative Medicine.
  • Experience in academic Internal Medicine, hospitalist, or Geriatrics.
  • Leadership training in healthcare.
Physical Requirements

The physician must be mobile, as the role requires sitting, walking, standing, and bending.
