Key Responsibilities

The Geriatrics & Extended Care (GEC) Physician will operate in various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, Community Living Centers, Community-Based Outpatient Clinics, Satellite Clinics, and Health Care Centers, utilizing telehealth modalities as needed. Responsibilities include practicing across diverse patient demographics, providing education to trainees, engaging in scholarly activities aligned with academic promotion, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. Patient care will be delivered both as a consultant and as a primary care provider for an assigned patient panel.

The Richmond VA Medical Center is a level 1a facility offering a broad spectrum of health care services, including primary, secondary, and tertiary care in multiple specialties. The medical center has a strong affiliation with the Medical College of Virginia and hosts various residency programs across general and specialty areas of medicine.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with shared on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements and any additional qualifications listed in the job announcement.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
  • Board eligibility or certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Board Certification and fellowship training in Geriatrics and/or Hospice & Palliative Medicine.
  • Experience in academic Internal Medicine or Geriatrics.
  • Additional health care leadership training.
Physical Requirements

The physician must be mobile, as the role requires sitting, walking, standing, and bending.
