Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our team at Kaiser Permanente. As a key member of our radiology department, you will be responsible for performing routine and highly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic interventional radiology procedures on patients following established parameters and protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with pre and post-patient assessment, patient teaching, and patient care within the scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with a range of procedures using fluoroscopic imaging that require the use of contrast media.
  • Use proper radiation safety measures to conform to the ALARA principle according to departmental Radiation Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepare work schedules to ensure sufficient staff is available for patient appointments.
  • Ensure that staff explains Interventional Radiology procedures to patients and that consent forms are obtained.
  • Actively participate in the Universal Protocol for all procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to ensure that equipment is properly and safely operated.
  • Assist staff to confirm that images meet requirements of radiologists.
  • Check the status of imaging and specialty equipment to ensure devices are in proper operating condition.
  • Troubleshoot technical and mechanical problems and perform minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Order equipment, film, and supplies and ensure that inventories are properly managed.
  • Ensure that patient information files are prepared and filed correctly.
  • Review and submit reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.
  • Perform QC Lead duties as an Interventional Radiology Technologist as required.
  • Perform other related QC Lead duties as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, nurses, and physicians, particularly regarding information on angiography procedures requiring specialized patient preparation.
  • Communicate with clinicians regarding patient preparation for angiography/interventional procedures, procedure results, and to assist in resolving problems as needed.
  • Maintain proper documentation for internal and external Regulatory compliance.
  • Systematically and continuously collect, assess, and document data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide procedural care for the patient.
  • Documentation of the procedure and medical care during procedure will require computer skills to complete electronic medical record.
  • Maintain an expertise in image acquisition, transfer, and archiving.
  • Assist in maintaining perpetual inventory count and scans product not in inventory systems.
  • Assist in maintaining a smooth operational flow and maximum patient volume.
  • Assume many roles within an interventional procedure.
  • Assist in positioning the patient, select radiation exposure parameters, and image the patient.
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and awareness of all radiation and patient safety issues involved with any invasive procedure.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies, and equipment operation.
  • Able to identify adverse events or unanticipated outcomes using critical thinking skills and notify the medical staff, including nurses, physician assistants, and physicians, appropriately.
  • Maintain licensure, certification, and ongoing CEUs for professional development on a timely basis.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent (within the last 12 months) experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital supporting fluoroscopy and c-arm/surgical procedures.
Education
  • Graduate of a certified/accredited ARRT program required.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Cardiac Interventional Radiography within 24 months of hire OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Vascular Interventional Radiography within 24 months of hire OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography within 24 months of hire.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Basic Life Support.
Additional Requirements
  • Proper documentation of education (i.e. copies of diplomas, transcripts, or International Equivalency Report) is required. Equivalency Report required if diploma or GED issued outside of the United States.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to walk simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other incumbents of the organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of radiology principles and practices, including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, and radiographic positioning.
  • Ability to operate all radiology equipment, such as radiographic machines, radiographic/fluoroscopic machines, Interventional Radiology associated equipment, associated surgical equipment, and image processors.
  • Demonstrate ability and knowledge of age-specific competency in providing care to the patient.
  • Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to internal and external customers.
  • Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software.
  • Knowledge of customer-focused service requirements of the organization. Ability to communicate pleasantly and effectively with members and coworkers.
  • Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to float between various locations within primary service area.
  • Required to stand, push, pull, and lift patients.
  • Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for 20 to 45 minutes at a time.
  • Must be able to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department without affecting departmental flow.
  • In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see.
  • May be required to lift objects heavier than 50 pounds, perform difficult manipulative skills, and hand-eye coordination skills, walk and stand for prolonged periods, see objects closely, and hear normal sounds with some background noises.
  • Must be able to work in Labor/Management Partnership environment.
