Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our team at Caton Hill Medical Center. As a key member of our radiology department, you will be responsible for performing routine and highly specialized diagnostic and therapeutic interventional radiology procedures on patients following established parameters and protocols.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with pre and post-patient assessment, patient teaching, and patient care within the scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with a range of procedures using fluoroscopic imaging that require the use of contrast media.
  • Ensure proper radiation safety measures are in place to conform to the ALARA principle according to departmental Radiation Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepare work schedules to ensure sufficient staff is available for patient appointments.
  • Ensure staff explains Interventional Radiology procedures to patients and obtains consent forms. Actively participate in the Universal Protocol for all procedures.
  • Provide training and guidance to ensure equipment is properly and safely operated.
  • Assist staff to confirm that images meet requirements of radiologists.
  • Check the status of imaging and specialty equipment to ensure devices are in proper operating condition.
  • Troubleshoot technical and mechanical problems and perform minor maintenance on equipment. Properly enter service requests for equipment failure and notify the IR Manager accordingly.
  • Order equipment, film, and supplies and ensure inventories are properly managed.
  • Ensure patient information files are prepared and filed correctly.
  • Review and submit reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.
  • Perform QC Lead duties as an Interventional Radiology Technologist as required.
  • Perform other related QC Lead duties as directed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, nurses, and physicians, particularly regarding information on angiography procedures requiring specialized patient preparation.
  • Communicate with clinicians regarding patient preparation for angiography/interventional procedures, procedure results, and to assist in resolving problems as needed.
  • Maintain proper documentation for internal and external Regulatory compliance.
  • Systematically and continuously collect, assess, and document data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide procedural care for the patient. Documentation of the procedure and medical care during procedure will require computer skills to complete electronic medical records. Maintain an expertise in image acquisition, transfer, and archiving.
  • Assist in maintaining perpetual inventory count and scans product not in inventory systems.
  • Assist in maintaining a smooth operational flow and maximum patient volume.
  • Assume many roles within an interventional procedure.
  • Assist in positioning the patient, select radiation exposure parameters, and image the patient. Maintain a high degree of accuracy and awareness of all radiation and patient safety issues involved with any invasive procedure. Demonstrate a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies, and equipment operation.
  • Able to identify adverse events or unanticipated outcomes using critical thinking skills and notify the medical staff, including nurses, physician assistants, and physicians, appropriately.
  • Maintain licensure, certification, and ongoing CEUs for professional development on a timely basis.
  • Perform other related duties as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum three (3) years of recent (within the last 12 months) experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital supporting fluoroscopy and c-arm/surgical procedures.
