Overview:
The Educator plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the mission of the Catholic institution by nurturing, motivating, and instructing students within a supportive, Christ-centered atmosphere. The Educator is directly accountable to the principal for implementing the policies of the institution and the Archdiocese of San Antonio in relation to the operation of the school, classroom, and interactions with students and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Uphold and promote the philosophy of Catholic education and the institution's mission.
- Serve as a role model of Gospel values by embodying the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Comply with the policies and procedures of the institution and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding institutional matters.
- Follow safety training and protocols daily, taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of oneself and others.
- Protect the confidentiality of any information or materials obtained while serving the organization, including but not limited to client names, services rendered, donor information, and financial data.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is essential.
- Every staff member is expected to adopt a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and contribute to a collaborative environment that aligns with the Mission and Vision of the organization.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Design and execute lesson plans that meet the curriculum requirements and demonstrate written preparation as needed.
- Prepare lessons that accommodate various student learning styles.
- Deliver subject matter in accordance with guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and utilize appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, and resources that reflect an understanding of the diverse learning needs of students.
- Assess student learning styles and utilize results to inform instructional planning.
- Collaborate with colleagues to establish instructional goals, objectives, and methods in line with DCS requirements.
- Oversee the assignments of teacher aides and volunteers.
- Incorporate technology to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
- Assist students in evaluating and improving their study techniques and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student performance through both formal and informal evaluations.
- Take responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
- Act as a positive role model for students and support the mission of Catholic education.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and suitable for the physical, social, and emotional growth of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary precautions to safeguard students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in the selection of instructional materials and resources as required.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and colleagues.
- Maintain a professional rapport with peers, students, parents, and community members.
- Utilize effective communication skills to convey information accurately and clearly.
- Engage in staff development activities to enhance job-related skills.
- Stay informed of and comply with Department of Catholic School regulations and policies for classroom educators.
- Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and digital reports, records, and documents.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary.
Education:
- A Bachelor's degree.
- 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certification, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards.
- Proficiency in technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes and multimedia presentations.
- Demonstrated expertise in the assigned subject area(s).
- Understanding of the assigned subject matter and general knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior effectively.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- May be required to work some weekends and evenings.
- Must be available for a full school day.
- Possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
