Job Summary

The Archdiocese of San Antonio seeks a highly skilled and dedicated Librarian to join our team. As a key member of our educational community, the Librarian will play a vital role in maintaining a professionally operated library that fosters a love of reading and promotes knowledge growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supports and Upholds Educational Philosophy: The Librarian will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school, acting as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Partners with Teachers and Students: The Librarian will partner with teachers and students in the pursuit of learning through the use of library media center materials and equipment, providing the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to support the school's instructional program.
  • Manages Library Resources: The Librarian will be responsible for selecting, acquiring, maintaining, and withdrawing library stock, ensuring a balance between subject and ability, and organizing, cataloging, and classifying library resources, both electronic and print-based.
  • Supervises and Trains Staff: The Librarian will supervise and train staff and pupil librarians working in the library, ensuring that they are equipped to provide excellent service to students and staff.
  • Develops and Promotes Library Services: The Librarian will develop and promote the role of the library in the school, working closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver the information skills curriculum, and promoting the effective and efficient use of the library and library resources.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree in Library Science or Informational Studies, with evidence of knowledge of library procedures, technical services, awareness of trends in children/young adult literature, material selections, and basic reference skills.
  • License and Credentials: Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and valid vehicle insurance.
  • Minimum Knowledge and Skills: Substantial library experience, with experience of working with schools or with children, community links, experience of organizing literacy and other events within school, and excellent written and verbal skills.
