Salary Range: $121,800 - $203,000 annually
At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). The Portfolio Manager Team Lead will oversee discretionary management for the most intricate trust and high net worth portfolios, tailored to clients' specific requirements, governing documents, firm guidelines, and fiduciary standards. This leadership role is pivotal in shaping and supervising the Bank's investment strategy, as well as constructing fixed income and/or equity portfolios.

Team Leadership

- Mentors, develops, and conducts performance evaluations for both direct and indirect reports.

Client Interaction
- Sets investment goals, articulates customized investment strategies, and provides insights and explanations regarding account performance.
- Guides the development and upkeep of client equity portfolios, conducting research and mentoring Research Analysts.
- Clearly communicates and advocates our investment philosophy to clients, prospects, and influential stakeholders.
- Collaborates with Senior Portfolio Managers and Portfolio Managers to ensure consistent client communication aligned with the broader investment team's perspectives.
- Works alongside Relationship Managers and Wealth Advisors to cultivate new business through clear communication of solutions and value propositions.
- Aids in the coaching of Advisors on the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) platform, promoting shared success in managing and expanding their business.
- Acts as a subject matter expert in annuities, fixed income, equities, and various types of liquid and illiquid private assets to provide recommendations for complex portfolio solutions.
- Partners with the financial planning team to integrate investment solutions into the financial planning process and ensure effective communication to clients.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of new investment strategies and instruments through regular engagement with industry professionals and personal research.
- Identifies and refers business opportunities to other areas within the Bank as appropriate.
- Delivers quality service in addressing customer needs, inquiries, and problem resolution.
- Develops content for investment newsletters, internal/external communications, and presentations in collaboration with third-party sources.
Additional Responsibilities
- Strictly adheres to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with Bank and regulatory standards.
- This role may require occasional travel for training and team meetings, and a willingness to travel periodically as needed.
- May necessitate work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration and support of internal and external customers.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in business or finance-related fields.
- Advanced degree or professional certifications preferred (i.e. MBA, CFA, CIMA, etc.).
- 10 or more years of prior experience in investment management.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in portfolio management requiring investment recommendations relied upon by others.
- At least 5 years of experience leading teams with demonstrated success in coaching and motivating team members.
- Proficient in equity analysis, risk management, asset allocation, financial planning, portfolio construction, investment product due diligence, and investment research.
- Expert-level understanding of investments and portfolio management strategies, Modern Portfolio Theory, Prudent Investor Rule, and Uniform Trust Code.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to instruct others, interpret documents, and write reports and correspondence.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
