About the Job

Hopedale Medical Complex is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our close-knit OR team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will assist the surgeon and other members of the surgical team in the completion of assigned procedures, including the preparation of the suite and the patient.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, supplies, and procedures utilized in the operating room.
  • Maintain an orderly and sterile instrument table.
  • Assist the surgeon and team during operative and invasive procedures, while anticipating the surgeon's needs.
  • Maintain an ongoing count of sponges, needles, dissectors, tapes, and instruments and supplies as needed or instructed.
  • Check all equipment/instruments needed prior to each case to ensure proper functioning.
  • Clean, sterilize, and replenish instruments and supplies as needed or instructed.
  • Monitor PAR level of all instruments and supplies and submit requisitions for replenishment to the Director of Surgical Services.
  • Remain proficient and knowledgeable of surgeons' needs, techniques, and requirements, and prepare the room accordingly.
  • Update preference cards when necessary.
  • Transport and position the patient as directed for the procedure, while being alert to proper identification methods.
  • Identify and appropriately label specimens and cultures to be submitted to the laboratory.
  • Respond to emergency calls as necessary.
  • Protect patient's right to privacy as outlined in the HIPAA regulations and policy of the Hopedale Medical Complex.
  • Participate in regular in-service training and other quality assurance activities, as well as in continuing education seminars and workshops.
  • Record treatments, comments, and notations as necessary on the appropriate patient chart.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and good working relationship with co-workers, supervisor, and physicians.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Must be eager to learn new things.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
