About the Job

Hopedale Medical Complex is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our close-knit Operating Room team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will assist the surgeon and other members of the surgical team in the completion of assigned procedures, including the preparation of the suite and the patient.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Operative Preparation: Demonstrate working knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, supplies, and procedures utilized in the operating room; knowledge of exposure control plan; utilize universal precautions.
  • Instrument Management: Maintain an orderly and sterile instrument table.
  • Assisting the Surgeon: Assist the surgeon and team during operative and invasive procedures, while anticipating the surgeon's needs.
  • Counting and Inventory: Maintain an ongoing count of sponges, needles, dissectors, tapes, and instruments and supplies as needed or instructed.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Check all equipment/instruments needed prior to each case to ensure proper functioning.
  • Cleaning and Sterilization: Clean, sterilize, and replenish instruments and supplies as needed or instructed. Monitor PAR level of all instruments and supplies. Submit requisitions for replenishment to Director of Surgical Services.
  • Patient Care: Transport and position the patient as directed for the procedure, while being alert to proper identification methods.
  • Specimen Handling: Identify and appropriately label specimens and cultures to be submitted to the laboratory.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency calls as necessary.
  • Confidentiality: Protect patient's right to privacy as outlined in the HIPAA regulations and policy of the Hopedale Medical Complex.
  • Continuing Education: Participate in regular in-service training and other quality assurance activities, as well as in continuing education seminars and workshops. Participate in departmental staff meetings and mandatory Complex meetings.
  • Documentation: Record treatments, comments, and notations as necessary on the appropriate patient chart, alert other personnel of problems, orders, and other pertinent information.
  • Communication: Establish and maintain effective communication and good working relationship with co-workers, supervisor, and physicians.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Continuous Learning: Must be eager to learn new things.
  • CPR Certification: Current CPR certification is required.
