Job Title: Assistant Chief Counsel

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) is seeking an Assistant Chief Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our Office of Legal Services, you will provide critical legal support and guidance to our programs and leadership, ensuring that we are operating in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.

As an Assistant Chief Counsel, you will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of complex and high-profile cases, including licensing and enforcement matters, public health emergencies, and regulatory compliance. You will also have the chance to collaborate with our team of attorneys, paralegals, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective solutions to complex legal issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to CDPH programs and leadership on a wide range of matters, including licensing and enforcement, public health emergencies, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement effective solutions to complex legal issues, including drafting and negotiating contracts, agreements, and other documents.
  • Collaborate with our team of attorneys, paralegals, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective solutions to complex legal issues.
  • Represent CDPH in court and before administrative agencies, as needed.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in state and federal laws and regulations, and provide guidance to CDPH programs and leadership on how to comply with these changes.

Requirements:

  • Admission to the California State Bar.
  • At least 5 years of experience as an attorney, with a focus on public health law, regulatory compliance, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and develop effective solutions to complex legal issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including attorneys, paralegals, and other CDPH staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
