Staff Counsel/Attorney

**Job Summary:**

Under the direction of the Supervising Counsel and Chief Counsel, provide legal counsel/representation to CCPOA, its Members. Attorney assignments will include the opportunity to represent peace officers in all aspects of labor relations and employment actions with public agencies in California.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Provide legal counsel and representation to CCPOA members in labor relations and employment matters.
  • Represent peace officers in administrative hearings, PERB proceedings, and state and federal court litigation.
  • Advise on union business and relations, including internal affairs interviews, skelly hearings, and state personal board hearings.
  • Represent peace officers in critical incident investigations, including officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional responsibility requirements consistent with California State Bar rules.

**Requirements:**

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree from an accredited university.
  • Admission to the California State Bar.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Westlaw/Lexis.
  • Valid California State Drivers' License.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and obtain a CDCR Contractor Identification Card.
