This role is integrated within the Robotic Systems Development (RSD) team under the Central Technology Office (CTO). Key Responsibilities:

Overview:

An automated guided vehicle (AGV) enables uninterrupted manufacturing and distribution by autonomously transporting products within processes. This necessitates excellence in mechatronic design and advanced software capabilities.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will report to the Mechatronics Engineering Manager and collaborate within the Vehicle Mechatronics group in Mobile Automation Project Execution. A successful candidate will demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking, the ability to rapidly produce innovative designs, and strong engineering expertise.

Core Duties:

  • Design and develop innovative solutions for AGV vehicles, including mechanical hardware, from initial concept to production release, adhering to project timelines and budget constraints while meeting all validation and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all engineering documentation is accurately released within the company’s database for production.
  • Collaborate with various departments including Software, Purchasing, Quality, Production, and Customer Service.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BS) from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering (MS) from an ABET accredited institution is preferred.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
  • 8-12 years of relevant experience in industrial or automation equipment.
  • Proficient in CAD software; experience with Unigraphics (NX) and/or SolidWorks, including surfaces, solids, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA), with a strong understanding of manufacturing processes to achieve cost-effective designs.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 standards, including drawing standards and GD&T principles.
  • Experience with CAE tools for structural and fluid/thermal analysis, specifically Unigraphics NX and/or Ansys.
  • Develop and release engineering documentation, including specifications and drawings, from prototype to production.
  • Maintain the company’s database with structured CAD data and necessary BOMs.
  • Create and manage Test Verification Plans, adjusting designs based on test results.
  • Conduct mechanical Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Adhere to project timelines and provide necessary documentation throughout the production phase, managing changes as required.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, UL, ISO, and CE standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
