The Vice President of Audit Services will collaborate with the Senior Vice President of Audit Services to establish and lead a proactive and efficient internal audit team. The successful candidate will engage effectively with organizational leadership across various functions and divisions to implement a solutions-oriented audit program. This role involves actively mentoring the audit team and identifying opportunities for skill enhancement and professional growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with Audit Services Management to define the strategic direction of the department, including the development and execution of a risk-based audit strategy and methodology.
- Provide independent oversight and strategic guidance for audit practices, ensuring that audit plans, frameworks, standards, and processes adequately address risk.
- Review and synthesize relevant findings and recommendations into clear and concise audit reports for different management levels, including the Supervisory Committee.
- Assist in managing essential administrative functions for the department, such as preparing materials for the Supervisory Committee, overseeing the departmental budget, and maintaining policies and procedures.
- Evaluate and assess significant merging or consolidating functions, as well as new or evolving services, processes, operations, and control mechanisms during their development and implementation.
- Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and other control groups to foster strong working relationships while maintaining independence. Promote an environment of transparency and constructive cooperation between Audit Services and credit union employees.
- Oversee vendor relationships for outsourced audit activities, including managing vendor requirements, contracts, and ongoing monitoring of engagements.
- Coordinate and communicate with credit union regulators and external auditors, including preparing and delivering necessary materials for examinations and annual audits.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Audit team by providing enhanced learning and career development opportunities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- CPA or CIA certification.
- A minimum of 7 to 9 years of auditing experience, including at least 5 years in auditing core banking or financial services.
- At least 4 to 6 years of project management or leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of risk management, process concepts, and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities.
- Strategic thinker with risk awareness and sound judgment.
- Proficient in standard audit software applications such as TeamMate and AuditBoard.
- Ability to work in a business office environment and utilize standard office equipment.
- Capability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Occasional travel may be required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
While not mandatory, the following qualifications are desirable:
- Formal training in business lending, financial statement analysis, or credit.
- Prior experience auditing large-scale change initiatives, product implementations, and system redesigns.
