Position Overview

Are you a dedicated individual eager to support at-risk communities in enhancing their readiness for natural disasters and tackling food scarcity? If you excel in fostering connections, facilitating workshops, and collaborating with diverse groups, this role may be ideal for you.

The California Emergency Response Corps (CERC) is a comprehensive statewide AmeriCorps initiative aimed at equipping Californians with the skills needed for disaster preparedness and response. This program is integral to the broader California Volunteers campaign, which focuses on strengthening emergency readiness in communities facing social isolation, economic hardship, language challenges, and food insecurity.

This position spans 11 months and is based at CERC's Regional Partner, Binational of Central California.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commit to 40 hours of service each week throughout the contract period.
  • Participate in mandatory training sessions, either in-person or online as required.
  • Be prepared to assist in statewide emergency operations for two weeks as needed.
  • Provide ongoing support to nonprofit partner organizations and their initiatives.
  • Engage in regular performance evaluations with CERC staff.
  • Maintain weekly documentation of hours worked and activities performed.
  • Deliver community services through Disaster Preparedness Education and assist in alleviating food insecurity at local food banks.
  • Be willing to serve as a local emergency responder in collaboration with the American Red Cross.
  • Participate in designated State/National Service Days.

Community Engagement:

  • Build and strengthen partnerships with local organizations and internal programs.
  • Represent the partner site and AmeriCorps programs at events and training sessions.
  • Conduct surveys and other measurable outreach activities.

Educational Outreach:

Members will spearhead presentations and outreach initiatives, working alongside local nonprofits to drive measurable changes in community preparedness.

Disaster Assistance:

As necessary, members will respond to disasters, providing essential support to organizations managing the response efforts. Deployments may occur on short notice and can last up to two weeks. Following each deployment, members and staff will conduct debriefings to share insights and enhance future response strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required.
  • Local residency is essential for daily service.
  • Two years of relevant professional or volunteer experience, or a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Willingness to deploy on short notice for disaster response.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Zoom, G Suite, and a readiness to learn new technologies.
  • Successful completion of background checks is mandatory.
  • A personal vehicle, valid California driver's license, and automobile insurance are required.

Service Commitment:
