Opportunity Overview


WSP is on the lookout for a Structural Engineering Consultant to become a vital part of our Property & Buildings team.


This role involves executing structural engineering tasks under the guidance of a licensed Professional Engineer, focusing on the design and analysis of both new and existing structures.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with architects, contractors, and clients, as well as managing projects autonomously. You will ensure that high-quality outputs are delivered punctually and adhere to project-specific construction regulations. This position calls for leadership skills and a commitment to advancing in the structural engineering field.

Your Contributions


Engage in structural engineering activities aimed at designing various types of structures, including concrete, steel, and timber, for a range of projects such as residential, institutional, and commercial.

Devise innovative engineering solutions to enable the repurposing of existing buildings through retrofitting or resilience evaluations.


Utilize advanced modeling techniques and design strategies to ensure safety and functionality for end-users, while integrating future-ready solutions aligned with structural engineering standards.

Participate in project coordination through both remote and in-person meetings, technical sketches, BIM modeling, and maintaining work site documentation.


Assess site characteristics to provide technical support in ensuring structural integrity against environmental and human-induced loads.


Generate data visualizations, including tables, charts, and reports, to effectively communicate findings and analyses.

Maintain rigorous quality control standards for accurate measurements and reporting.

Assist in the planning and development of small to medium-sized projects.


Contribute to the creation of technical reports and presentations that clarify research findings aimed at addressing design and construction challenges.


Conduct engineering studies and surveys to gather insights on specific design and construction issues and to prepare for future requirements.


Support the analysis and interpretation of data from site investigations, providing input for action plans focused on risk mitigation.

Help in the formulation and execution of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).


Exhibit responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.

Take on additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.

• 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, with prior structural or civil design experience.

• Engineer in Training Certification.

• Comprehensive knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices, particularly as they relate to project work.

• In-depth understanding of seismic design, ductility, and the mechanics of various building materials.

• Basic familiarity with finite element analysis and performance-based design.

• Experience in infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including both rehabilitation and new design.

• Ability to liaise with regulatory agencies and comprehend their requirements.

• Knowledge of sustainability practices and methods for minimizing hazardous substances and greenhouse gas emissions.

• Familiarity with relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.

• Strong communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts to diverse audiences.

• Self-motivated with a keen attention to detail, able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

• Proficient in technical writing and various software tools related to engineering.

• Active participation in local professional organizations is preferred.


• Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., ETABS, AutoCAD, Revit) is advantageous.


• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for applying technical knowledge to derive effective solutions.


• Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and safety policies.

Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond standard hours is required.
