About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and attentive Surgical Assistant to join our team at Maryland Oral Surgery Associates. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our surgeons in the operating room.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons during consultations and treatment, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.
  • Perform basic laboratory duties, including impressions, model pouring, and trimming, to support our dental services.
  • Maintain a clean and organized environment, adhering to infection control and biohazard protocols to ensure patient safety.
  • Operate the autoclave and maintain surgical trays, ensuring they are properly set up and stocked.
  • Identify and retrieve instruments used in the clinic, supporting our surgeons during procedures.
  • Prepare patient rooms for IV anesthesia and surgery, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Review patient charts, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Support airway management for sedated patients, prioritizing patient safety.
  • Circulate and retrieve instruments during procedures, maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
  • Provide excellent patient care and communication, addressing patient concerns and needs.
Non-Surgical Responsibilities
  • Restock supplies, forms, handouts, and rooms, maintaining a well-stocked and organized environment.
  • Take vital signs, ensuring accurate and timely recording of patient information.
  • Familiarize yourself with all forms and handouts, including procedure-based and consent forms.
  • Comply with OSHA requirements, adhering to personal protection protocols.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, filing, and charting.
  • Make follow-up phone calls to patients, ensuring timely communication and follow-up care.
  • May take X-Rays, supporting our dental services.
  • Close and open the office each day, ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and functioning.
  • Greet patients and make them feel comfortable, providing a welcoming and supportive environment.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification, with the ability to obtain once hired.
  • Dental X-ray license, with the ability to obtain once hired.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to provide exceptional patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
  • Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Assistant program.
  • Certification as a Surgical Assistant.
