Job Title: Survey Director

Bowman is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Survey Director to lead our surveying function in Houston, TX.

Job Summary:

The Survey Director will oversee the surveying activities of assigned business units, ensuring effective execution and quality assurance. This role requires strong leadership and direction, as well as technical expertise in land surveying and project management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and direction of department or business unit, including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables.
  • Assist with marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Oversee all surveying activities, including review of all project changes, pending or anticipated alterations to the contract, additional work requests, and all other factors that may significantly affect staffing requirements or budget.
  • Supervise work of all survey project personnel to ensure it meets the highest professional standards.
  • Define the scope of multiple, complex projects and develop plans to accomplish land survey projects.
  • Monitor progress toward deliverable schedules.
  • Compile project status reports.
  • Review job cost sheets/prepare monthly billings.
  • Ensure assigned projects stay within budget allocation.
  • Collect outstanding monies due from assigned clients.
  • Participate in and formulate marketing presentations and attend marketing meetings.
  • Secure repeat business from existing clients and identify new clients.
  • Supervise the work of Project Managers when needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying or related field preferred.
  • Professional Land Surveying registration.
  • Ten or more (10+) years of land surveying or related land development experience, including a minimum of two (2) years project management experience.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Carlson principles.
  • Must be licensed surveyor in relevant state.
  • Experience managing a Survey Department is preferred.
  • Strong Survey Business Acumen - Prepare Proposals, RFP responses, Desire to pursue Business Development - Survey Accounting - Includes billing, project reports and collections.
  • Strong Local Jurisdictional Knowledge for Plat preparation and approval.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

The Survey Director will work primarily in an indoor professional office environment, with occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions. The role requires frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment, as well as mobility around the office and job/construction sites.
