Position Overview

SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Director of Respiratory Therapy, the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) plays a crucial role in delivering therapeutic and diagnostic interventions for patients experiencing respiratory challenges, including those in critical care settings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Administers therapeutic gases, humidification, medications, and aerosols for both treatment and diagnostic purposes.


• Provides essential patient education to enhance understanding of respiratory care.


• Executes physician orders for administering medications to the cardiopulmonary system.


• Develops and implements comprehensive treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.


• Assesses and evaluates treatment outcomes, making necessary adjustments to enhance patient care.


• Conducts basic evaluations of Arterial Blood gases, Pulmonary Function Tests, EKGs, and chest X-rays.


• Interprets results from Arterial Blood gases, Pulmonary Function Tests, EKGs, and chest X-rays.


• Collaborates with the Director of Respiratory Therapy, physicians, and multidisciplinary team members to discuss patient progress and care strategies.


• Participates in patient care conferences and weekly rehabilitation discussions as required.


• Maintains accurate clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and professional standards.


• Records daily treatments and labor in compliance with corporate policies.


• Completes treatment reports and documentation as per facility guidelines.


• Engages in discharge planning to ensure continuity of care.


• Coordinates with other departments to ensure effective clinical service delivery.


• Represents the facility professionally in all interactions.


• Communicates with the Director of Respiratory Therapy regarding departmental goals, challenges, and achievements.


• Works with the Director to address concerns or conflicts with patients' families and colleagues in a professional manner.


• Adheres to state regulations and national standards relevant to Respiratory Therapy practice.


• Engages effectively with professional peers.


• Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:


• Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

EXPERIENCE:


• Minimum of three years of relevant experience in a similar environment.


• At least six months of experience with mechanical ventilation.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:


• Current Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the applicable state.


• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.


• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.


• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.


• Must maintain active certifications in good standing throughout employment.
