CITY OF HENDERSON, KENTUCKY

CLASSIFICATION TITLE:
FACILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION

The objective of this role is to execute cleaning and maintenance tasks associated with the upkeep of municipal facilities and equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The following responsibilities are typical for this position. These should not be interpreted as exhaustive or exclusive. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary.

  • Conducts floor care activities including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing; cleans restrooms, windows, water fountains, tables, and associated facilities/equipment; vacuums carpets; dusts furniture; washes walls; wipes down equipment; and disposes of trash and recyclables.
  • Maintains outdoor areas; sweeps parking lots, collects litter, trims plants, and clears debris from walkways.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, restocking vending machines, and maintaining restroom supplies as needed.
  • Handles various landscaping tasks; trims shrubs, weeds flower beds, clears debris from sidewalks and outdoor areas; shovels snow; rakes leaves; and spreads salt and sand on walkways as required.
  • Arranges and rearranges furniture and equipment as directed.
  • Reports maintenance needs to the Facility Supervisor.
  • Moves supplies and office equipment as instructed.
  • In Public Works, maintains the Municipal Center and associated facilities and equipment.
  • In Parks & Recreation, cleans and maintains department facilities, including community centers, gyms, weight rooms, and related areas.
  • In Parks & Recreation, manages weight room equipment as directed.
  • In Parks & Recreation, performs painting tasks for doors, walls, and cabinetry.
  • In Parks & Recreation, clears debris from outdoor courts, rakes leaves, and spreads salt and sand on walkways as necessary.
  • In Parks & Recreation, washes and cleans sidewalks and picnic areas.
  • Maintains consistent and reliable attendance during standard business hours.
  • Must successfully complete a drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and adhere to ongoing testing as per the City's policies.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other related tasks as required or assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A high school diploma or GED is preferred; prior experience in custodial or maintenance roles is advantageous. A valid driver's license is required.

Ability to arrange, compare, count, differentiate, measure, and/or sort data.

Includes assessing whether observable characteristics align with established standards.

Ability to exchange information for the purpose of clarifying details within established policies and procedures.

Equipment and Tools Utilization:
Ability to operate and control equipment and tools used in performing essential functions.

Verbal and Mathematical Aptitude:
Ability to utilize reference data and perform basic arithmetic operations.

Functional and Situational Reasoning:
Ability to follow instructions in various forms and exercise judgment in routine tasks.

ADA COMPLIANCE

Physical Ability:
Tasks require regular performance of moderately physically demanding work, involving activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting moderately heavy objects.

Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate various sensory cues.

Environmental Factors:

Performance may involve exposure to adverse conditions such as dust, odors, and temperature extremes.
