Job Overview:
The primary objective of this role is to conduct custodial duties associated with the upkeep of municipal facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
The following tasks are standard for this position. These should not be interpreted as exhaustive or exclusive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

  • Perform cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; sanitizing restrooms, windows, water fountains, tables, and related facilities/equipment; vacuuming carpets; dusting furniture; washing walls; wiping down equipment; and disposing of trash and recyclables.
  • Maintain outdoor areas by sweeping parking lots, collecting litter, weeding, and clearing debris from sidewalks.
  • Execute routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, restocking vending machines, and ensuring paper/soap dispensers are filled.
  • Conduct various landscaping tasks including trimming shrubs, weeding flower beds, clearing debris from sidewalks and outdoor courts, shoveling snow, raking leaves, and applying salt and sand on pathways as required.
  • Set up and dismantle furniture and equipment as instructed.
  • Report maintenance needs to the Facility Supervisor.
  • Assist in moving supplies and office equipment as directed.
  • In Public Works, maintain cleanliness of the Municipal Center and associated facilities and equipment.
  • In Parks & Recreation, ensure cleanliness of department facilities, including community centers, gyms, weight rooms, and related equipment.
  • In Parks & Recreation, manage weight room equipment as instructed.
  • In Parks & Recreation, perform painting tasks on doors, walls, and cabinetry.
  • In Parks & Recreation, clear debris from outdoor courts, rake leaves, and apply salt and sand on pathways as necessary.
  • In Parks & Recreation, wash and clean sidewalks and picnic areas.
  • Regular and predictable attendance during business hours is essential.
  • Must successfully complete a drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and comply with ongoing testing as per the City's policy.

Additional Duties:
Perform other related tasks as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is preferred; prior experience in custodial or maintenance work is advantageous. A valid driver's license is required.

Human Interaction: Ability to exchange information for clarification within established policies and procedures.
Equipment Utilization: Ability to operate and control equipment and tools necessary for essential functions.
Verbal Aptitude: Ability to utilize various reference data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.
Functional Reasoning: Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form with some latitude for independent judgment.
Situational Reasoning: Ability to exercise judgment and creativity in frequently changing situations.

ADA Compliance:
Physical Ability: Tasks require regular performance of moderately physically demanding work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting moderately heavy objects.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate various sensory cues.
Environmental Factors: Performance may involve exposure to adverse conditions such as dirt, dust, humidity, and temperature extremes.
