Job Summary

The City of Henderson, KY is seeking a skilled Gas System Technician to join our team. As a key member of our Gas Department, you will be responsible for performing manual work functions associated with various city departments, including gas pipeline installation and maintenance, traffic control, and other gas distribution and construction-related activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gas Pipeline Installation and Maintenance: Perform manual work activities involving gas pipeline installation and maintenance, including repairing and replacing gas lines, installing pipes, cutting and threading pipes, tapping water mains, fusing gas lines, and servicing gas lock valves.
  • Manual Labor Functions: Perform various manual labor functions associated with department projects and activities, including breaking concrete, mowing grass, edging and trimming grounds, digging holes and trenches, shoveling materials, lifting and moving heavy materials, picking up debris and litter, and directing traffic.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools associated with department activities, including utility trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, end loaders, trenchers, tapping machines, tractors, mowers, weed eaters, chippers, shredders, chemical sprayers, paint sprayers, heat lamp vacuum applicators, water pumps, air compressors, jack hammers, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, pipe threaders, band saws, chain saws, drill presses, welders, cutting torches, grinders, post drivers, shovels, and pick axes.
  • Transportation and Maintenance: Transport, load, and unload various equipment and materials used in projects or at work sites. Perform general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition, including inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing and cleaning equipment, and cleaning building and work areas.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in monitoring inventory levels of equipment, tools, and supplies, and initiate requests for new or replacement materials.
  • Safety and Compliance: Utilize safety equipment and monitor work environments to ensure the safety of employees and other individuals. Maintain a valid driver's license and adhere to the City's Drug and Alcohol policy.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: 12 months of previous experience and/or training involving equipment operation, manual labor, or maintenance work in the area assigned.
  • Skills: Ability to operate a variety of equipment, machinery, and tools; manual labor skills; ability to work in a team environment; and strong communication skills.
  • Certifications: OQ certification as appropriate for job duties.
