Job Overview:

Under the supervision of the Vice Chancellor of Business & Financial Services, the Budget Analyst plays a critical role in the formulation, coordination, and oversight of the organization's budget. This position is responsible for conducting comprehensive financial, statistical, and budgetary analyses of the organization's resources. The analyst will engage in a variety of quantitative and qualitative analytical tasks, demonstrating a high level of expertise, while also managing and monitoring position control.


Educational Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting, finance, public administration, statistics, business administration, or a related field is essential. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree on a year-for-year basis.


Experience Requirements:

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a financial environment, particularly within a school district accounting office or equivalent, is required. This includes extensive involvement in budget development, financial reporting, and analysis.


Knowledge and Skills:

Proficiency in accounting and finance principles, financial reporting systems, and the ability to prepare detailed financial spreadsheets and reports is necessary. Familiarity with governmental accounting standards and the California Community College's Budget and Accounting Manual is preferred.


Core Competencies:

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to execute complex oral and written instructions, apply statistical analysis for reporting, and make informed recommendations regarding financial processes. Strong judgment, initiative, and the capacity to work independently under pressure are crucial.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the organization's annual budget.
  • Prepare financial documents for presentations to the Board.

  • Engage in fiscal year-end closing processes.
  • Conduct high-level financial forecasting and analysis.
  • Evaluate and process budget and expenditure transfers.
  • Maintain position control and monitor salary accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
