Department: Exceptional Education Department
Key Responsibilities: The individual will provide comprehensive support and supervision to small groups or individual students with emotional and special needs. As a vital member of the educational team, the aide will operate under the general guidance of the principal and classroom teacher. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting in the execution of routine classroom tasks to enable teachers to focus on specialized duties.
- Supporting the teacher in managing classroom activities and student supervision.
- Reinforcing educational instruction as directed by the teacher.
- Assisting with the organization and preparation of educational materials.
- Maintaining accurate pupil and program records.
- Engaging with students who may be medically fragile or have developmental disabilities, as well as those with social/emotional challenges.
Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or TASC Credential, or have four years of full-time paid experience in relevant subjects. Alternatively, current certification from NYS or an equivalent agency is acceptable. Additional qualifications include:
- Familiarity with classroom procedures.
- Effective communication skills.
- Dependability and a courteous demeanor.
- Physical capability to meet job demands, including the ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Compliance with county residency requirements.
Compensation: The salary for this position is set at $21,000 for a full-time role during the 10-month period, equating to $17.46 per hour. Additional salary credit may be awarded for relevant experience (up to 10 years) and/or educational qualifications. Comprehensive benefits are also available.
