Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Park Facilities Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing both skilled and unskilled tasks related to the upkeep of County Park amenities. This role involves operating light to medium-sized construction machinery to ensure the maintenance and aesthetic appeal of park grounds and facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains cleanliness in restrooms, including toilets and urinals, while ensuring floors are swept and mopped, and supplies are replenished.
  • Collects and disposes of trash and recycling materials.
  • Completes additional related tasks as necessary.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is essential.

When assigned to Community Centers:

  • Ensures building floors are cleaned through sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming.
  • Maintains cleanliness of doors and windows.
  • Dusts furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Replaces light bulbs when required.
  • Sets up tables and chairs in community rooms for various meetings and events.
  • Reports any concerns or significant repair needs to the Facility Coordinator.

When assigned to Parks and Fields:

  • Operates and maintains tractors, attachments, and other light to medium-duty landscaping equipment.
  • Conducts maintenance on all park buildings.
  • Paints signs and structures within the park.
  • Manages grass cutting, tree trimming, and the planting and upkeep of grass, shrubs, and trees in park areas.
  • Lines and prepares fields according to league regulations.
  • Repairs soccer nets and other equipment; transports and sets up tables and chairs for events.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Utilizes various tools and equipment including saws, trenchers, power tools, tractors, drill presses, chain saws, lawn mowers, tillers, builders levels, dump trucks, weed eaters, bulldozers, earth augers, volt meters, paint equipment and supplies, and various cleaning supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years of experience in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, or construction.
  • Two years of experience in Turf Management.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the minimum qualifications.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Possession of a Commercial Driver's License or a temporary CDL with the ability to obtain a full CDL within six months of employment, along with a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Georgia Pesticide Applicator License within six months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of basic carpentry, electrical, and plumbing techniques.
  • Proficiency in operating light to medium construction equipment.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Capability to perform manual labor effectively.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records related to Turf Management.

ADA MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Physical Ability: The essential functions of this position require the ability to walk, maintain balance, and perform repetitive movements with hands, arms, and legs. Incumbents must be able to lift and transport items weighing up to 25 lbs regularly. Additionally, the role requires analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to direct others while staying organized.

Essential functions frequently necessitate bending, reaching overhead, pushing or pulling items, and moving items weighing between 26 lbs and 50 lbs. Incumbents must be adaptable to change and capable of working irregular hours, including nights and weekends.

Occasionally, the role may require remaining stationary, crawling, climbing ladders, and lifting items over 51 lbs. Incumbents must be able to handle stress and manage confidential information.

Sensory Ability: Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with hand-eye coordination for using tools and equipment.

Environmental Factors: This position involves exposure to various environmental conditions, including inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and potential hazards from machinery and tools. Incumbents must be prepared to work in diverse settings and maintain safety protocols.
