Position Overview

In response to our expanding operations, TRC Field Services (FSV) is on the lookout for additional Senior Commissioning Specialists to bolster our Client Teams in the Midwest region.

With a workforce of over 200 skilled utility and industrial commissioning engineers and testing technicians, TRC delivers comprehensive, economical solutions safely to our Electric Utility Customers, while offering premier training programs and mentorship in the industry, along with numerous avenues for professional growth and competitive benefits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee, coordinate, execute, and document all commissioning tasks (pre-commissioning, construction, testing, energization, and project closure) for various utility substation protection, control, and power circuits, in alignment with TRC's and Client's specifications, budgets, and timelines.
  • Examine wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents prior to project initiation and outages.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and problem-solving related to protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, addressing issues such as Application Errors, Drawing Errors, Wiring Errors, Settings Errors, Equipment Malfunctions, and Battery Ground Faults.
  • Engage in project meetings, including kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons learned sessions.
  • Prepare comprehensive daily, weekly, and project completion reports that detail project progress, challenges, recommendations, test outcomes, and analyses.
  • Assist in the formulation of project-specific testing and commissioning plans, energization strategies, and other designated documentation.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies for utility systems and equipment. Create a Site Risk Assessment to document high-risk construction and commissioning activities, formalizing processes for circuit isolation and restoration to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment.
  • Ensure that all required tests and commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system according to planning and project documentation. Confirm that all test results are satisfactory and properly recorded, filed, and disseminated.
  • Generate detailed test reports for various types of electrical equipment and review and approve these reports.
Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical or Power Systems preferred) from an accredited institution, along with 10+ years of relevant experience in testing and commissioning services (Electric Utility experience is preferred, but we will train engineers with experience in commissioning complex commercial or industrial equipment, including protective relays or other Power Systems Field Engineers with relay knowledge).
  • Proven ability to read and comprehend construction and manufacturer’s drawings and specifications, as well as schematic diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of electrical protection systems, including relay communication; basic knowledge of AC and DC schematics, wiring, and drawings, including one-line and three-line interconnection diagrams.
  • Prior experience with medium and high voltage substation and power plant equipment, capable of performing basic apparatus testing and interpreting test results with supervision.
  • Solid knowledge of substation utility protection and control circuits, with the ability to perform commissioning activities and interpret results under supervision. Basic knowledge of commissioning methods to accurately conduct and document commissioning activities.
  • Experience with Doble Protection Suite and/or ProTest, SEL AcSELerator, Enoserv RTS is highly preferred.
  • Must possess current US work eligibility and a valid driver's license issued by the state of residence, in good standing.
  • Willingness to travel out of town for extended periods.
  • Availability for flexible hours, including weekends, overtime, holidays, and night shifts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and negotiate with clients and team members.

Compensation: In accordance with local regulations, the salary range applicable to this position will vary based on experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program, which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators that may vary by year and employee.
