Overview:

The Senior Claims Specialist is responsible for the thorough evaluation and resolution of complex claims in alignment with departmental standards and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Effectively manage serious and complex claims, including those with unique damage or coverage challenges.
  2. Conduct comprehensive investigations into coverage, damages, and reserve adequacy for assigned claims.
  3. Apply relevant statutes, common law, and regulatory frameworks to ensure fair and efficient claims resolution.
  4. Meet established objectives for claim file audits.
  5. Engage with policyholders, agents, claimants, and other stakeholders to facilitate effective claims resolution.
  6. Maintain meticulous documentation in accordance with company guidelines.
  7. Provide timely updates on claim status to management and relevant parties.
  8. Identify opportunities for cost containment and subrogation recovery.
  9. Contribute to departmental and interdepartmental meetings and initiatives related to claims.
  10. Travel as necessary for training, conferences, and investigations.
  11. Support the overall objectives of the department by assisting colleagues as needed.
  12. Participate in the training and orientation of new team members.
  13. Assist in establishing initial reserves when required.
  14. Complete additional projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex legal and coverage concepts.
  • Strong decision-making abilities and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in managing challenging situations constructively.
  • Advanced negotiation skills for resolving complex claims.
  • Comprehensive understanding of claims processes and coverage issues.
  • Proficient in utilizing automated claims processing systems.
  • Able to train others on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Physical capability to inspect losses, including walking and lifting.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with external contacts and internal teams.

Education and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required, along with the ability to pass mandatory adjuster licensing requirements. A minimum of five years of technical claims experience is necessary, with a CPCU designation being highly desirable. Experience within Brotherhood Mutual is preferred.
