Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Building Official to join our team at the City of New Haven. As a key member of our building department, you will be responsible for ensuring that construction projects meet the highest safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review building plans and issue permits to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of residential and commercial building construction to verify compliance with approved plans and codes.
  • Investigate building code violations, complaints, and reports, and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Provide information and advice to contractors, builders, and the public on all aspects of the New Haven Uniform Building Code and related regulations.
  • Compile and submit monthly construction activity reports, and maintain accurate records of daily inspections and activities.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in building construction and codes compliance, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills. You must also be a Certified State of Connecticut Assistant Building Official, and have at least three years of building construction inspection or related experience.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires regular attendance and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. You will be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and may be exposed to hazardous materials and situations.
