As a key member of the Kaiser Permanente team, the Manager Operations Area Laboratory will be responsible for directing and controlling the day-to-day operations of their specific area of responsibility. Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and control the day-to-day operations, 24/7, for one or more of the following areas: chemistry, hematology/coagulation, urinalysis/bacti, blood bank, point of care, general lab, and/or quality control assurance.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and ensure competency of staff.
  • Motivate and encourage professional and personnel growth.
  • Control costs by monitoring personnel utilization, material usage rates, analyzing fluctuations in types and volumes of tests, and implementing corrective action.
  • Direct and implement effective risk control processes.
  • Support, consult, and participate with facility and regional QA programs to ensure internal and external regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring section-specific QA/Risk Management program.
  • Assist in monitoring quality assurance for laboratory information systems.
  • Research and resolve client problems/issues.
  • Oversee and coordinate operational aspects within various subsections of the clinical laboratory.
  • Consult with clients to resolve service issues.
  • Recommend processes to correct problems.
  • Participate in department, interdepartment, and interfacility projects that help the laboratory achieve its goals of providing quality service and client support in a cost-effective manner.
  • Develop equipment and system needs analysis as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the integration of secondary laboratory information systems with RILIS.
  • Interface with lab manager to implement and monitor an internal and external complaint/incident program.
  • Coordinate and implement a safety program to include fire, hazardous wastes, infectious wastes, electrical, and chemical.
  • Coordinate a program of continuing education in the area of safety.
  • Coordinate internal resources and monitor milestones to achieve service expectations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a high-volume clinical laboratory.
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or a related field, or four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (California).
  • Knowledge of CLIA, Title 22, CAP, TJC, NCQA, AABB, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
