POSITION TITLE: Senior Information Security Engineer
FLSA Status: Exempt
Department: IT
Reports to: Director of Information Security
POSITION SUMMARYThe Senior Information Security Engineer plays a crucial role in safeguarding the integrity and security of the organization's data, systems, and personnel. This position primarily focuses on overseeing the information security frameworks and protocols, responding to alerts and notifications generated by security systems, and managing incidents effectively. Collaboration with the Director of Information Security and various IT teams is essential for addressing vulnerabilities within security infrastructures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Enhance and manage Jackson Walker's Information Security architecture and essential operational security processes, including:
Microsoft M365/Azure security tools and processes:
- Defender for O365
- Defender for Identity
- Defender for Cloud
- Sentinel (SIEM) and KQL queries
- Conditional Access Policies
Palo Alto Networks Next-Gen Firewalls and GlobalProtect VPN
- Conduct security event analysis to monitor Jackson Walker's computing environment for policy violations, unusual activities, and network intrusions.
- Support the execution of vulnerability management and penetration testing initiatives.
- Engage in security audits, client risk assessments, and security reviews.
- Implement immediate corrective measures for identified threats and develop strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Draft, update, and document Information Security policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Collaborate with vendors and consultants to explore advancements in security technology and assess their relevance to the organization.
- Evaluate and recommend new security technologies and processes to meet the organization's security requirements.
- Provide guidance, documentation, and training to staff on information security technologies.
- Oversee the organization's patch management process to ensure systems are up-to-date.
- Assist in disaster recovery and business continuity planning and testing.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 3 years in a general IT role.
- At least 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in information security.
- Possession of at least one recognized security certification (e.g., CISSP, GSEC, CEH, GCIH, CySA+, Security+).
- Familiarity with security controls in a Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
- Experience with SIEM, including monitoring and threat detection.
- Understanding of network protocols and firewall configurations.
- Experience in vulnerability scanning and remediation.
- Proficiency in hardening various operating systems (Windows, Mac, Linux).
- Preferred: Knowledge of information security standards/frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO-27001, CIS Critical Controls).
- Preferred: Familiarity with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager or similar tools.
- Preferred: Understanding of cloud security controls, preferably in Microsoft Azure.
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information to diverse audiences.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with clients and staff with professionalism.
- Must be able to see and operate computer equipment.
- Ability to lift hardware and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Standard office environment with minimal exposure to extreme conditions.
- May require occasional overtime work.
- Availability for after-hours communication as needed.
- Potential travel to various locations for training or meetings.
