Role Summary:

The Cleaning Associate is responsible for performing cleaning, janitorial, and porter duties throughout the museum. This role is essential in maintaining the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the museum facilities, which is vital for the overall success of the institution. This position is part of a union.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of restrooms throughout the shift as required.
  • Address spills, accidents, and urgent cleaning needs promptly.
  • Manage trash and recycling disposal throughout the day.
  • Sweep and remove debris as necessary, both inside and outside museum premises.
  • Handle clean-up, decontamination, and disposal of bodily fluids when necessary, adhering to all safety protocols.

Additional Duties:

  • Ensure restrooms are cleaned according to the guidelines set by the Facility Manager.
  • Perform sweeping and mopping tasks as directed.
  • Conduct vacuuming, dusting, and spot cleaning of carpets as instructed.
  • Utilize industrial cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners and scrubbing machines, and perform tasks such as washing walls and polishing light fixtures.
  • Remove stains from various surfaces using appropriate cleaning agents.
  • Dispose of trash and recycling as directed.
  • Clean windows as instructed.
  • Be familiar with and execute emergency procedures, including fire evacuation and accident reporting.
  • Assist in the reception of cleaning supplies.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in commercial cleaning is preferred but not mandatory.

Skills:

  • Reliability and dependability.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safety and health protocols.
  • Attention to detail and consistency in work.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Regular movement throughout the museum for cleaning purposes.
  • Occasional lifting of heavier items (such as furniture) may require assistance. Duties may include climbing ladders and using various tools.
  • Work environment involves interaction with the public, including children and families.

Work Schedule:

  • Hours will be determined based on operational needs.
  • Availability for weekends and occasional evening shifts is required.
  • Essential duties will be performed in a museum setting, with public interaction.

Clearance Requirements:

  • FBI fingerprint, PA Child Abuse History Certificate (Act 33), and PA State Criminal Record Check (Act 34) are mandatory.
