Summary:

We are in search of a full-time Clinical Forensic Laboratory Specialist to contribute to our LCMS 3 department.

The selected candidate will play a crucial role in preparing and analyzing biological samples for drugs or other substances. Responsibilities include:

  • Handling biological specimens
  • Storing specimens in appropriate conditions
  • Adhering to chain of custody protocols
  • Preparing samples for analysis
  • Generating pre-analytical reports for specimen evaluation
  • Preparing and validating reagents, controls, and calibrators
  • Conducting analytical testing under supervision
  • Entering results into LIMS (as per departmental requirements)
  • Performing routine maintenance on instruments
  • Executing basic troubleshooting of instruments
  • Documenting quality control data and implementing corrective actions
  • Independently conducting analytical tests
  • Participating in directed method validation
  • Properly disposing of all chemicals and biological materials
  • Engaging in projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintaining consistent and reliable attendance
  • Executing other assigned duties

Education Requirements:
*NMS Labs mandates that applicants submit official or unofficial transcripts prior to extending an offer; those without transcripts will not be considered. A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science is required.
The degree must be in a relevant field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 22 semester credit hours in college-level chemistry coursework, including labs:
General Chemistry I & II (8 credits)
Organic Chemistry I & II (8 credits)

Two, 3-semester hour courses from the following options: Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Informatics, Instrumental Analysis, Mass Spectrometry, Quantitative Analysis, Separation Science, Spectroscopic Analysis, Biochemistry, Drug Metabolism, Forensic Toxicology, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, Physiology, Toxicology; Physical Chemistry I & II along with any chemistry course labeled as CHEM or CHE on the transcript.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Proficient in reading, writing, and comprehending the English language
- Understanding of fundamental analytical concepts
- Capability to identify and resolve non-technical issues
- Ability to interpret and execute various technical procedures in verbal, written, mathematical, or diagrammatic formats
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols
- Competent computer skills
- Strong oral and written communication abilities
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills
- Adaptability to changes
- High level of integrity

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
- Ability to hear
- Vision (with correction) including color, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to manipulate instrument or equipment controls, computer keyboard, office equipment, objects, or tools
- Movement between work locations
- Sitting and standing, sometimes for extended periods
- Lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
- Ability to travel as needed for court testimony.
- Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by equipment
- Exposure to fumes, noxious odors, and dust
- Handling of biological materials and blood-borne pathogens
- Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals
- Proximity to moving parts
