Job Overview

A Clinical Support Specialist is responsible for delivering patient care in an outpatient clinic environment. This role encompasses assisting patients with both urgent and ongoing health concerns at the Wellington Lung and Sleep Clinic.

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. No weekends or holidays. This position includes responsibilities at both the front desk and in clinical support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute general administrative and patient care duties in line with Intermountain MGPSMA Scope of Practice and established protocols.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Welcome and prepare patients for their appointments while fostering a supportive and positive atmosphere.
  • Attend to patient needs, coordinate care, administer treatments, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Ensure patient safety and uphold privacy rights by adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Collect and document patient information, including vital signs, medical history, and current medications.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • May perform blood draws and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as needed.
  • Conduct routine tests as requested by the healthcare provider, including EKGs and vision screenings.
  • Schedule patients for diagnostic tests and follow up to ensure completion.
  • Communicate test results to patients and assist in developing care plans as directed by the provider.
  • Document care plans, test results, and examinations in the medical record as instructed.
  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize medical instruments and maintain equipment; ensure patient exam rooms are stocked and organized.
  • Administer prescribed medications and/or vaccines through various methods as required.
  • Refer non-routine issues and concerns to the practice manager or healthcare providers.
  • Complete safety checklists and quality control measures as mandated.
  • Exhibit sound judgment and composure, especially in emergency situations.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health while adhering to service behavior standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current BLS Certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
  • One year of experience as a Medical Assistant, including phlebotomy.
  • Successful completion of initial onboarding and annual skills assessments.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Completion of a National Certification Exam for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).

Physical Requirements:

Regular need to see and read information, assess patient needs, and operate medical equipment. Frequent communication with patients and healthcare providers is essential. Manual dexterity is required for handling delicate equipment and performing documentation tasks. Ability to lift and transport patients and supplies is necessary.
