About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at The University of Texas at Austin. This exciting opportunity involves designing and developing advanced sonar systems for underwater applications, leveraging your expertise in mechanical engineering, electroacoustic transducer design, and acoustic system analysis. You will work closely with researchers and engineers to ensure projects meet requirements, deadlines, and quality standards.

Responsibilities
• Develop detailed engineering designs of sonar transducers, arrays, and associated mechanical and acoustic components
• Conduct structural mechanics and acoustics FEA to analyze and optimize design performance
• Procure, fabricate, and assemble sonar systems and sensor payloads, ensuring high-quality results and timely delivery
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate, test, and evaluate sonar systems and sensors in lab environments and in the field
• Create and review technical documentation, including reports and presentations, for stakeholders and project sponsors

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
• Five years of experience in mechanical design, electroacoustic transducer design, and acoustic system analysis
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality results on time and within budget
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Experience with CAD software, finite element analysis, and data acquisition equipment

What We Offer
The University of Texas at Austin provides a competitive salary of $144,000-$174,000, depending on qualifications, plus a comprehensive benefits package, including 100% employer-paid basic medical coverage, retirement contributions, paid vacation and sick time, and paid holidays.

Salary Range
$144,000-$174,000 per year
