Position Overview
The Head of IT Infrastructure offers strategic direction and operational oversight for all infrastructure at Editas, encompassing hardware, software, servers, databases, storage solutions, networks, and high-performance computing.
This position collaborates with the IT Leadership Team and various stakeholders to ensure that the infrastructure supports and aligns with Editas' strategic and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Direction:
Establish the mission, vision, and strategy for the Infrastructure department.
Formulate and execute both short- and long-term strategic plans to address current and future infrastructure requirements.
Lead the development and assessment of infrastructure architectural designs.
Facilitate the Technical Review Board forum.
Generate and maintain operational and project documentation for infrastructure.
Operational Oversight:
Direct the planning, execution, and successful completion of all infrastructure initiatives.
Ensure optimal operation of all IT infrastructure equipment and services around the clock.
Maintain high availability, backup, and continuity of IT infrastructure.
Monitor reliability, resilience, and performance; implement projects to sustain IT operations.
Establish and document best practices and policies for installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Develop, maintain, and test disaster recovery plans for all critical infrastructure components.
Collaboration and Governance:
Build strong relationships with ITLT colleagues and stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor.
Work alongside the Head of Information Security to align with security strategies.
Partner with the Head of Digital Workplace to create and manage an integrated ITSM environment.
Collaborate with IT Business Partners to define requirements, solutions, and services.
Engage with ITLT on infrastructure portfolio and resource prioritization.
Financial and Performance Management:
Develop and oversee the annual Infrastructure budget.
Promote a culture of continuous cost optimization.
Regularly assess the business value of Infrastructure using metrics (KPIs, OKRs, etc.).
Formulate and implement methodologies for testing infrastructure performance and reporting.
Participate in audits and assessments of the IT environment; lead management responses for infrastructure findings.
Vendor Management:
Collaborate with sourcing and vendor managers to ensure compliance with contracted services and metrics.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, information systems, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
10+ years of experience in IT leadership roles, including strategy formulation, operational management, budgeting, and team development.
5+ years in the life sciences sector with a proven track record of applying regulatory or statutory compliance requirements to infrastructure.
Proficient understanding of Operational Change Management practices and working knowledge of network routing and switching, firewall policies and ACLs, server and OS administration, leased line connectivity, and telecom vendor management.
Experience with troubleshooting principles, methodologies, issue resolution techniques, and structured leadership abilities to guide colleagues through critical operational events.
Technology Experience:
Routing, Switching, Firewalls, Collaboration tools, Compliance suites, Endpoint management systems, Remote backup technologies, DHCP, Active Directory, Email system administration, MFA suite, DNS.
Preferred Qualifications:
CompTIA Network+, ITIL v3, PMP, AWS-Practitioner, CCNA/CCIE, Azure Administrator, Six Sigma.
Exceptional communication skills, both technical and user-friendly, for diverse audiences.
Strong collaboration skills to engage with IT colleagues and stakeholders in developing solutions.
Demonstrated technical competence and ability to provide effective support in areas of expertise.
