Head of Preclinical Development

A well-funded and highly innovative start up from Third Rock Ventures is emerging out of stealth with a syndicate of marquee investors and is seeking an experienced Head of of Preclinical Development. Reporting to the CSO, the Head of Preclinical Development will play a wide-ranging role in helping to develop a mature pipeline of drug candidates for the company. This role will be responsible for integrating key functional workstreams required for the preclinical development of biotherapeutics including pharmacology, toxicology, and bioanalytics. The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry, have filed multiple INDs, and be a recognized leader in Pharmacology, Toxicology or Bioanalytics.


Responsibilities

  • Using an approach grounded in objectivity and scientific rigor, oversee all internal and external preclinical development activities
  • Working within a matrix team ensure the development and execution of preclinical development activities including pharmacology, toxicology, and bioanalytics
  • Provide leadership, strategic oversight, resource management, and organizational framework to ensure timely decision making on projects
  • Identify, support, manage and develop talent among team; act as a resource and mentor to team members by providing guidance, instruction, feedback and ongoing coaching; encourage visionary thinking. Value the advancement of our programs and our people. Preserve and promote current model of participative decision making in an organization where siloes are nonexistent and discouraged
  • Contribute to the integration of Discovery Research, CMC and clinical organizations
  • Professionally represent the organization externally in collaborations and conferences, board of directors and scientific advisory board meetings

About You

  • Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Immunology or related field
  • 15+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience and a minimum of 8 years in one of the key predevelopment domains listed above
  • Experience working directly with Drug Discovery, Safety Assessment, Regulatory, Technical Operations & Clinical Development
  • Extensive knowledge of biotherapeutic research and development and thorough understanding of the tasks and deliverables required to mature assets through preclinical development, IND filing and drug development.
  • A strong understanding of the people, processes and infrastructure involved in managing across the drug development lifecycle.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks with a strong attention to detail in a high-intensity, high-visibility environment.
  • Strong communication and ability to influence across all levels of the organization, including executive leadership
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including quantitative and qualitative assessment skills and demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Ability to distill complex issues and ideas into simple, comprehensible terms
  • Strong leadership, mentoring and team building skills
  • Passion for making a difference in the world through the creation of new medicines
