Job Summary

Positive Impact Health Centers INC is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Certified Peer Specialist to join our Addiction Services Department. As a key member of our team, you will work collaboratively with clients, staff, and community resources to provide peer support and guidance in their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct peer counseling in individual and group settings, utilizing the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP).
  • Conduct ongoing follow-up, basic motivational interviewing, and goal setting with clients.
  • Assist clients in developing problem-solving techniques, identifying and overcoming negative self-talk, and modeling effective coping strategies.
  • Support clients' vocational choices and help them build social skills to enhance job acquisition and tenure.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive work environment by sharing your personal experience and insights on mental illness and substance abuse.
  • Provide education and support on drug and alcohol issues to individuals, families, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, adhering to Positive Impact Health Centers INC's record-keeping procedures and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Conduct client intakes and assessments, as well as perform random urine toxicology tests to ensure treatment compliance.
  • Participate in crisis intervention services, including the on-call clinician rotation.
  • Attend team, agency, and community meetings as required.
  • Respond to phone calls and inquiries regarding mental health services and substance abuse treatment programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to strict guidelines regarding client conversations and referrals.
  • Engage actively in the community to promote the targeted population and provide addiction education to clients, families, and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Georgia training for the MH Certified Peer Specialist or GA Cares.
  • Personal experience with mental health and substance abuse, with a strong interest in integrating this experience with linkage, retention, and adherence in client work.
  • Understanding of the community served and knowledge of relevant community resources.
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening and using language appropriately.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to address client needs.
  • Experience working with chemically dependent/mental health clientele and case management.
