Peer Support Specialist

Positive Impact Health Centers INC is seeking a highly motivated and empathetic Certified Peer Specialist to join our Addiction Services Department. As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will work collaboratively with clients, staff, and community resources to provide peer support and guidance in building and maintaining recovery plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct peer counseling in individual and group settings, utilizing the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP).
- Assist clients in setting and achieving goals, developing coping strategies, and overcoming challenges.
- Support clients in accessing community resources, including vocational training and social skills development.
- Collaborate with staff to identify program environments conducive to recovery and provide unique insights into mental illness and substance abuse.
- Provide education and support to individuals, families, and stakeholders on drug and alcohol information.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, adhering to Positive Impact Health Centers INC's record-keeping procedures.
- Conduct client intakes and assessments, as well as perform random urine toxicology tests to ensure treatment compliance.
- Participate in the on-call clinician rotation, providing crisis intervention services as needed.
- Attend team, agency, and community meetings, as required.
- Respond to phone calls and inquiries regarding mental health services and substance abuse treatment programs.
- Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
- Engage actively in the community to promote the targeted population's well-being.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Accepted for Georgia training for the MH Certified Peer Specialist or GA Cares.
- Interest in integrating personal experience with linkage, retention, and adherence into work with clients.
- Understanding of the community served.
- Knowledge of relevant community resources and methods for accessing them.
- Good communication skills, including listening well and using language appropriately.
- Ability to work flexible hours to address client needs.
- Interest or experience in working with clients who are difficult to engage and maintain in traditional health care services.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with clients and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability and willingness to provide emotional support, encouragement, and motivation to clients.
- Basic computer skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience (1 or more years) in working with chemically dependent/mental health clientele.
- Knowledge and experience (1 or more years) in case management.
