Job Overview:

Work Environment: The position is based at the LSU AgCenter School of Nutrition and Food Sciences. This role is funded through grants, with responsibilities primarily focused on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-Ed, 60%) and the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP, 40%).

Key Responsibilities:
As an accountant for SNAP-Ed, the selected candidate will manage the processing of invoices and oversee all administrative fiscal operations related to SNAP-Ed. This includes serving as the primary fiscal liaison with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and ensuring that all financial documentation for monthly invoices is accurately prepared. The accountant will also verify staff salaries and their allocation to the SNAP-Ed grant within the university's HR system. Additionally, the role involves preparing budget revisions and maintaining ledgers of expenditures, providing monthly financial summaries to the principal investigator (PI) and program manager. The accountant will collaborate with Sponsored Programs accounting to ensure proper financial management of the grant and assist in procuring necessary supplies and educational materials.

For EFNEP, the accountant will review monthly financial transactions and documentation from various parishes and the state office, ensuring compliance with federal and state purchasing guidelines. The role includes tracking expenses using Quicken and Workday, preparing financial reports, and discussing budgetary matters with the PI.

Furthermore, the accountant will support both programs in adhering to fiscal year-end closing procedures, ensuring all expenditures are accurately reported.

Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field from an accredited institution is required, along with at least one year of relevant experience. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills, as well as proficiency in software such as Workday, Excel, and Quicken. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively and independently. A positive attitude and a commitment to enhancing the lives of others are highly valued.
