We are seeking a collaborative individual with a passion for public relations and a desire to expand their skill set. The ideal candidate will possess excellent writing abilities, familiarity with video production and the Adobe Creative Suite, and a talent for generating innovative concepts.

Your responsibilities will include managing our social media platforms, assisting in the planning, filming, and editing of videos, and ensuring our events are memorable. You will also contribute to our quarterly publication, write scripts, speeches, and any other necessary written materials.

Additional tasks may arise, including the exciting opportunity to launch a podcast. We welcome your creative ideas and are eager to explore new initiatives.

The City of Lake Forest operates on a 9/80 schedule, typically from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with every other Friday off. However, this role may require occasional evenings and weekends.

As part of a team that collaborates across all city divisions, strong interpersonal skills are essential. We value learning from our experiences and encourage you to challenge us as we work together towards shared goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in various clerical, administrative, technical, and para-professional tasks to support the City's public relations initiatives.
  2. Develop, format, edit, and proofread marketing and public relations documents, including newsletters, brochures, and flyers.
  3. Collaborate with city staff to create and distribute communication and marketing materials.
  4. Manage the City’s mobile application and social media accounts, creating and posting relevant content.
  5. Monitor the City website for compliance with policies and guidelines, contributing to article development and posting.
  6. Conduct research and assist in the formulation of administrative policies and procedures.
  7. Support video production efforts, including filming and editing, while maintaining audio/visual equipment.
  8. Conduct studies related to public relations activities and provide analytical reports.
  9. Assist in resolving operational issues and recommending solutions.
  10. Participate in the oversight of contracts and agreements.
  11. Support live streaming operations for City Council meetings.
  12. Monitor the Public Information Division budget and assist in budget development.
  13. Contribute to Requests for Proposals and Bids for various projects.
  14. Engage in special projects, planning, and coordinating events.
  15. Document City events through photography.
  16. Act as a liaison for assigned functions with other departments and the public.
  17. Coordinate activities with other City programs and departments to ensure effective collaboration.
  18. Attend meetings and events as required.
  19. Perform related duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

Knowledge:
Understanding of public relations principles, municipal government operations, and effective communication strategies. Familiarity with office management practices and budget preparation is essential.

Skills:
Ability to manage a public relations program, analyze and interpret policies, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Proficiency in modern office equipment and software is required.

Education:
A Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field, along with relevant experience, is preferred.

Physical and Mental Demands:
Ability to perform office tasks, interact with the public, and manage multiple projects under pressure.

Work Environment:
Typically office-based with a quiet to moderately quiet noise level.
