About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at Klamath Basin Behavioral Health. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and guidance to individuals struggling with mental health issues, substance use disorders, or psychological trauma.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain positive, trusting relationships with assigned peers in various settings, including home visits, community settings, treatment facilities, and office visits.
  • Provide emotional support and a supportive presence to peers in medical clinic settings.
  • Attend group sessions for clients to support patient growth and recovery.
  • Assist clients in identifying their personal recovery goals through the development of a Personal Recovery Plan.
  • Help clients overcome barriers to maintaining independence and provide skill-building in areas such as budgeting, transportation, healthcare appointments, and benefits.
  • Offer follow-up support to connect individuals with a full range of resources in the community to assist them in maintaining stability and control over their own lives.
Requirements
  • Meet the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) Certified Peer Support Specialist Requirements, including completing an OHA application, passing a criminal history background check, and completing an Oregon Health Authority-approved 40-hour PSST training.
  • Have at least 18 years of age and not be listed on the Medicaid provider exclusion list.
  • Identify as a peer under one or more of the following: a self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services, or a self-identified person in recovery from an addiction disorder who meets the abstinence requirements for recovering staff in alcohol and other drug treatment programs (2 years).
  • Successfully complete the required training offered by an OHA-approved training program for Peer Support Specialist.
