Peer Support Specialist

The Peer Support Specialist will work as a member of the Klamath Tribal Health & Family Services clinical team to provide outreach, recovery support, and identification of Native Americans/Alaskan Natives impacted by substance abuse, mental illness, and/or incarceration.
Key Responsibilities- Support behavioral health treatment, recovery support, and prevention and promotion efforts
- Collaborate with the YFGC Clinical Team, agencies, support networks, and community providers to address the social support needs of clients
- Develop professional relationships with organizations, providers, recovery community, and advocacy groups
- Connect participants with recovery-based supports to promote personal growth
- Work collaboratively with clinicians to provide outreach to adult clients who demonstrate low engagement and/or missed appointments
- Provide supportive resources for individuals inquiring or seeking behavioral health services
- Support YFGC Clinicians with admission and discharge planning for clients needing detox, hospitalization, residential placement, subacute care, or transition from incarceration
- Maintain documentation of peer support efforts in the electronic health record
- Work an irregular work schedule, as needed
- High School Diploma or Equivalent within two (2) years of hire
- State Certified Peer Support Specialist (PSS) Certification, or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire
- Lived experience in one or more of the following ways: recovery from substance use dependence, managing a serious mental health condition, or being a close family member of someone with a substance use or serious mental health disorder
- Model a clean and sober lifestyle both on and off the job
- One (1) year experience working with adults with addiction, re-entering the community from incarceration, and/or mental health challenges
- Computer experience, with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, and working in a networked environment
- Valid Oregon Driver's License, good driving record, and insurable by the Klamath Tribal Health & Family Services' vehicle insurance policy
- Maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information
- Submit to a background and character investigation, as per Tribal policy
- Annual TB skin testing and adhere to KTHFS staff immunization policy
- Acquire and maintain BLS certification within 180 days of hire
- Accept the responsibility of a mandatory reporter
- Be free from exclusion from providing Federal health care benefits
