Senior Program Officer, Vaccines and Biologics

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Program Officer to join our Vaccines and Biologics team at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the development of strategies to address critical gaps in the Global Health vaccine and biologics portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a substantial portfolio of investments, including grants, contracts, and equity, to support the foundation's programmatic strategies.
- Identify and select partner institutions, develop the scope and strategy for selected grants, investments, and contracts, and cultivate and nurture existing external partnerships.
- Provide subject matter expertise to foundation colleagues, represent the foundation externally, and contribute to diligence teams and evaluate investments in biotech, not-for-profit, and academic partners.
- Monitor and provide analysis on technology trends and innovations relevant to initiatives and portfolios.
Requirements
- Deep expertise in immunology, infectious diseases, and vaccine development, with experience in late discovery and translation in first-in-human studies.
- 10+ years of experience in a similar role, with a PhD or MD, and a proven track record of success in academic, industry, or similar positions.
- Significant technical depth and passion about human immunology and vaccine development against infectious diseases.
- Experience assessing new technologies and approaches, and matching novel technologies with biomedical or public health applications.
- Experience working in a highly dynamic and matrixed environment, with a demonstrated ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, and diplomacy.
What We Offer
The salary range for this role is $229,100 to $355,200 USD, with a range of $249,600 to $386,900 USD in Seattle and Washington D.C.
