Role Summary:

The Welding Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of industrial machinery and equipment, including tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and machine attachments necessary for production or experimental purposes. The role involves utilizing software such as CATIA and other platforms to create and manage tooling designs.

With minimal supervision, this position supports the entire manufacturing process and collaborates with various departments to evaluate, develop, plan, coordinate, direct, and enhance tool fabrication processes. The engineer will oversee all aspects of tool fabrication from initial design to final production, including decisions on whether to manufacture in-house or outsource.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts complex tool engineering tasks across multiple production lines to ensure efficient manufacturing of products.
  • Contributes to quotation proposals by collaborating with team members to develop cost-effective tooling solutions that meet engineering, quality, and customer specifications.
  • Engages in product and process development, participates in design reviews, and approves tool design drawings to ensure seamless transition to production.
  • Identifies manufacturing requirements for tooling, including cost assessments, and determines make-or-buy decisions.
  • Reviews and approves finalized tool designs for production.
  • Maintains communication with internal teams and suppliers regarding tooling activities.
  • Researches and evaluates suppliers of tools and related equipment, providing recommendations as necessary.
  • Performs cost analysis for tooling on a project basis and conducts special investigations as needed.
  • Offers guidance to Manufacturing Engineers and Tool Designers on tool planning, design, and documentation, ensuring proper control records are maintained.
  • Engages in additional duties such as consulting for the Tool Design department, forecasting capital expenditures for tooling, and collaborating with materials review teams.
  • Participates in Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including 6S and Kaizen events.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in welding engineering or a similar role.
Skills and Competencies:

To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
  • Application of technical standards, principles, and concepts relevant to welding engineering.
  • Effective planning and organization of daily activities to meet multiple project requirements.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to push and pull weights of 50 lbs.
  • Occasional bending and frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Regular communication through talking and listening.
