Position Overview

The General Manager is tasked with steering the vision of "Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World." The GM leads a dedicated team of Pet Care Center managers and is responsible for all facets of managing a single Pet Care Center. This position emphasizes a focus on people (talent acquisition, training, and development), performance (guest service, sales, and expense management), and process (standard operating procedures and policies), ultimately driving profitability.

Key Responsibilities

The GM exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing all activities within the Pet Care Center to enhance the experience for partners, guests, and pets. Team Development

  • Assemble a team that exemplifies the Petco brand by delivering exceptional service and fostering guest loyalty.

  • Oversee all partner performance management within the Pet Care Center.

Performance Management

  • Achieve or surpass goals related to overall sales, profitability, and operational excellence.
  • Manage labor hours and payroll to maximize productivity and meet sales goals.
  • Regularly review financial and operational reports, including center visits and audit results.
  • Identify underperforming metrics and devise strategies to enhance business performance.
  • Promote the Pet Care Center and its offerings through community events and local promotions.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure the health, appearance, and welfare of all animals are maintained.
  • Oversee merchandise pricing, display, and stocking according to inventory levels.
  • Complete and submit accounting and inventory management paperwork promptly.
  • Maintain the Pet Care Center's appearance in accordance with operational standards.
  • Protect company assets and minimize loss by adhering to safety and inventory control procedures.
  • Ensure the Pet Care Center opens and closes according to established policies.
  • Maintain a professional image and cleanliness throughout the Pet Care Center.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with proficiency in business and finance skills.

  • Three or more years of management experience is required, preferably in retail.
  • A working knowledge of general business practices and strong organizational skills are desirable.
  • Must demonstrate a genuine interest in animal welfare and possess a professional demeanor.
  • Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.

Work Environment

The majority of duties are performed indoors, with occasional tasks requiring movement of merchandise and customer interactions. This role may involve physical activity, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
