Position Summary
As a Safety Compliance Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Project Team and the Concrete Strategies safety division to implement corporate safety and health protocols in alignment with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Your involvement will extend beyond project duties, as you will engage in various tasks aimed at fostering a zero-incident safety culture across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the formulation of the project safety strategy.
- Conduct jobsite orientations for newly hired project personnel.
- Document participation in orientation sessions and issue identification badges to employees who complete the program.
- Participate in initial meetings with project staff and subcontractor representatives to clarify roles within the project safety framework.
- Organize and document pre-planning safety discussions with subcontractor representatives to set safety protocols before their activities commence on-site.
- Facilitate regular (weekly) safety meetings with subcontractor representatives and project staff to ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Provide training for site personnel, ensuring compliance with OSHA/Concrete Strategies standards and Federal and State regulations.
- Maintain a log of toolbox safety meetings conducted by each subcontractor.
- Review subcontractor safety programs to ensure they meet or exceed project safety requirements.
- Verify that each subcontractor appoints a safety representative who is adequately trained and empowered to address safety concerns.
- Conduct daily and weekly inspections of the jobsite, completing safety checklists to identify violations and necessary corrective actions.
- Document and report any safety violations or unsafe practices to subcontractors for prompt resolution.
- Immediately halt any unsafe acts or violations.
- Assist the Project Superintendent in developing and enforcing fire prevention, evacuation, and emergency response procedures.
- Investigate all incidents and prepare detailed reports.
- Maintain all required safety documentation.
- Conduct monthly safety overview meetings and participate in project staff meetings to discuss safety matters.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated management, leadership, and interpersonal skills with effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Safety and Health or a related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years of safety experience or a combination of education and extensive experience in construction, with a solid understanding of safety and environmental principles.
- Bilingual in Spanish and possessing intercultural communication skills is preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour construction certification.
- OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer certification is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Working Environment
- Physical demands include the ability to climb stairs, use construction personnel hoists, and navigate construction sites.
- Specific vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Requires manual dexterity to handle tools and controls, as well as the ability to sit, talk, hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Regularly works on-site at construction locations, where exposure to moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, outside weather conditions, and electrical hazards may occur.
