Senior Payroll Manager

About the Role
Ardelyx is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Payroll Manager to join our team. As a key member of our payroll department, you will be responsible for overseeing all payroll procedures, including preparing and distributing employee payments, calculating taxes, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all payroll procedures, including preparing and distributing employee payments, calculating taxes, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Manage the semi-monthly payroll process, including reconciling quarterly tax filings and ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Reconcile quarterly tax filings, ensuring all exceptions and errors are cleared for quarter balancing reports, wage detail totals, employee quarter errors, W-2s, and annual balancing.
- Oversee new hires and terminations, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
- Manage payroll system and become proficient with Paylocity.
- Lead and assist with projects as needed.
- Manage and maintain state and local tax information in payroll system.
- Oversee governmental reporting obligations.
- Oversee monthly accounting reconciliations and ensure GL is accurate and delivered timely.
- Oversee accurate, timely processing of new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations in compliance with multi-state regulations.
- Manage processing and review of YTD information, W-2 forms, W-2c's, and amended tax returns.
- Keep abreast of legislative updates that affect payroll/tax regulatory compliance and provide training to staff.
- Supervise and manage payroll team, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training new staff and providing performance evaluations.
- Serve as a backup to the Director, Payroll.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and minimum of ten to fifteen years of payroll experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Tax processing experience in a payroll department with HR to PR system integrations.
- Certified Payroll Professional Designation preferred; basic payroll class completion (local APA chapter) a plus.
- Member a plus.
- Knowledge of federal and state payroll and tax requirements and regulations. Multistate experience is required.
- Strong knowledge of payroll accounting and reconciliations.
- Good understanding of equity-related transactions.
- Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make timely decisions.
- Must have problem-solving skills and ability to organize time effectively.
- Proficient in Microsoft-based applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and writing skills required.
- Self-starter and strong ethical standards.
