The role involves coordinating assessments and authorizations. You will provide guidance and support to clients regarding the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and formulate a Plan of Action and Milestones to address network deficiencies in alignment with DODI and ICD.


  2. Your responsibilities will include evaluating network compliance against controls outlined in NIST and preparing A&A packages. You will conduct assessments, compliance checks, and validations of IT systems to bolster the Cybersecurity program at USSOCOM and its affiliated commands. The objective is to ensure the integrity of client systems by identifying and mitigating potential vulnerabilities.

Advise USSOCOM and its commands on network and system risks, recommend risk mitigation strategies, and enhance operational effectiveness.

Additionally, the Information Security Systems Specialist should be proficient in conducting security evaluations and vulnerability assessments utilizing tools such as the DOD Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) and Nessus. You will identify relevant STIGs and perform assessments using the Security Content Automation Protocol tool. Collaboration with network and system administrators will be essential to rectify identified deficiencies. You will also review scans for new systems and applications being integrated into the environment, identify issues, and draft certification documentation.

The specialist should possess knowledge of cybersecurity defense tools, including endpoint security and SIEM.

Key Responsibilities Include:

· Monitoring A&A status of SIE governed information systems, ensuring documentation is accessible in the designated automated tool.

· Implementing cybersecurity requirements.

· Providing subject matter expertise on DoD & IC RMF to USSOCOM and its commands, assisting in the development and execution of the RMF program.

· Maintaining and validating connection approval packages for DISN, cloud, and DIA, including those from USSOCOM and its commands.

· Developing and maintaining documentation for new and existing networks, cloud environments, and information systems.

· Conducting A&A for networks, cloud environments, and systems to secure necessary authorizations.

· Performing risk and vulnerability assessments of IT and IS for authorization; preparing reports for submission to relevant authorities.

· Assisting in the enforcement of A&A and connection standards for networks and systems.

· Maintaining A&A databases and tools to ensure proper documentation and management from a cybersecurity perspective.

· Reporting compliance with applicable Cybersecurity regulations to higher headquarters.

· Ensuring timely notifications to prevent lapses in accreditations.

· Developing an Information Security Continuous Monitoring (ISCM) Plan to address ongoing security awareness and vulnerabilities.

· Advising on cybersecurity control compliance and associated risks.

· Coordinating with various organizations to resolve security and A&A issues.

· Conducting security authorizations and assessments for networks, systems, and devices.

· Validating system patching, performing validation scans, and developing Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms).

· Providing expertise for developing and implementing Cybersecurity mitigation strategies.

· Identifying and validating the effectiveness of security measures.

· Analyzing cybersecurity posture and reporting to relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Experience with US Combatant Commands is preferred.

· Technical background in system administration, architecture, and engineering is advantageous.

· Familiarity with networking, identity management, and operating systems is essential.

· Working knowledge of the RMF is required.

· Knowledge of Telos Xacta or eMASS is preferred.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.

· Understanding of DoD IA processes and policies is crucial.

· Active TS/SCI clearance is mandatory.

Experience, Education, & Certification Requirements:

Years of Experience Required: 8+ years

Education Required: BA/BS

Certification Required: Current DoD M, IAT- Level III or IAM Level III.

Example Certifications: CISSP (or Associate), CASP+CE, CISA, CISM, CCISO, GCED, GCIH, CCSP, or GSLC
